Henri PARENS, M.D., discussed such ideas as his personal experience as an 11-year old, fleeing from the German army when they attacked and invaded Belgium, and then from a concentration camp after encouragement by his mother. He arrived in America with 49 other refugee children to start life anew and begin his recovery process.

Henri PARENS, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry, Jefferson Medical College; training and supervising psychoanalyst at the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Institute; clinical and research psychoanalyst of adults and children. Dr. Parens is the author of over 140 scientific and lay publications as well as the CBS television series, Parenting: Love and Much More. He has received 13 honors and awards including the Miriam Brown World of the Child Award, the Philadelphia Psychiatric Association's Life Time Achievement Award, and in 2004 the Dean's Citation for Significant Contributions to the Advancement of Education at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Parens' principal research and prevention efforts have been in the fields of the development of aggression in early childhood, the prevention of violence and prejudice, and the prevention of experience-derived emotional disorders. Among his 12 published books are Renewal of Life-Healing from The Holocaust (2004) and Parenting for Emotional Growth (1997.)
