The Vamık D. Volkan Lecture Series :

History, and especially recent history has demonstrated that even in the time of International peace keeping organisations, group processes in society
and between groups can lead to destructive violence and even genocide. The vital need to understand extreme between group interactions
and especially that of developing effective interventions and concepts of negotiations can still be seen as a new field.
An interdisciplinary key group of experts with long-standing experience in large scale negotiations and mediation has collaborated
to prepare a professional training program based on the most recent knowledge in this new field.

. The programme will be organised and hosted by Sigmund Freud University, Vienna, Austria.

. Sessions will be held between October 2009 and April 2011.

. Program Director is Thomas Wenzel, Medical University of Vienna.

. The team of experts that will offer their experience as trainers
will be headed by
Professor Vamık D. Volkan, Lord Alderdice, and Professor Nathaniel W. Howell.

. Seminars will be held by Vamık D. Volkan, Lord Alderdice, Ambassador Prof. Nathaniel W. Howell, Prof. Felix de Mendelsohn,
Thomas Wenzel, Alfred Pritz, with selected specialists from related fields of expertise and again by Vamık D. Volkan.

. Participants do have the opportunity to work on and acquire experience and skills in the analyses and negotiations of conflicts and in the development and implementations of strategies for coexistence between groups.

. The programme will be based on a pragmatic and interdisciplinary approach, integrating political sciences,
and transcultural, large group and psychodynamic psychology.

. Subjects will be developed through review of existing theoretical concepts, analysis of practical examples, self-experience, and interaction.

. The time frame of five consecutive intense workshops, consisting of four days over a time
of two years will permit the integration of the curriculum into ongoing professional work settings.

. On completing the programme participants will receive the diploma on International Conflict Negotiation.

. The course will be held in English.
